One of my favorite things to do is travel to remote, uninhabited places for new ideas and inspiration. At other times I troll the web, looking for images that have something special, that speak to me directly. To be quite honest, I don't know how I could work anymore without Photoshop, because I take photos and then tweak them extensively until I have the look I want. Fortunately, none of my paintings ever seems to directly reflect what I start out with! It changes as I paint. I once read somewhere that making art is the same as solving a series of problems, and the more I paint, the more I agree with that statement. This painting was inspired by my visit to the Missouri River south of Bismarck, North Dakota. It is one of the few places in ND with grass and trees, since it is right by the river. Below are some photos of other places that I have a heart and soul connection with. ![]() Endless wheat field in North Dakota ![]() Cross Ranch sunset ![]() Waterfall in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee: God's country. |
