This is a rendition of Epona, the Celtic Horse goddess. She was a fertility goddess and was often depicted holding large bundles of wheat or corn. However, her most classic pose is that of a woman riding sideways on a small horse. Many scholars think that is where the word "pony" came from. It is a threatened species and is found primarily in the last remnants of the Tallgrass Prairie in North Dakota and Minnesota. The Nature Conservancy has purchased a large area of this habitat and is carefully protecting the remaining specimens. This painting is oil on canvas, 24w x 36L, and will sell for $300.00.
